Football tournament "Play for hope, play for education" was a central event that International Aid Network - IAN organised for this year's World Refugee Day. The tournament was held on 20 June 2006 on the sport field of the primary school in Zemun .

There were 6 teams that applied for the competition, with about 50 children and youth, refugees and displaced persons.

The teams were: "Batajnica", "Roma Zemun", "Busije", "SDF volunteers", "KiM-Kosovo and Metohija" and "Strumfovi".

The event was inspired by the ongoing World Football Cup and it aimed to join sports that connects all the people in the world regardless of their origin, and education as one of the important factors for successful integration of the refugees and IDP in their local communities.

First, three qualifying matches were played. Then, the guests of the tournament, members of the artistic group "Krajina" performed some traditional dances and songs preserving the folklore and heritage of refugees . After the semi final matches, two teams, "Busije" and "SDF volunteers" met in the finals. Following a 30 minute battle of lion hearts, the players of "Busije" team came out as winners. The winning team was awarded 4 ECDL Start indexes (ICT certificate recognised in 149 countries in the world) and 4 free of charge computer courses and exams in IAN Telecentar.

All other participants got 2 free of charge ICT courses (according to their choice) in IAN Telecentar computer school, and there were also some smaller prizes such as balls, bags and notebooks.

Throughout the tournament there was an excellent atmosphere of fair play and fun, all teams wore T-shirts with World Refugee Day logo, and not even the high summer temperature prevented them from playing with the greatest possible enthusiasm and courage.

The action was realised with the financial support of UNHCR, Serbian Refugee Council and CAFOD, and with the assistance of the Trustee`s Office of the Republican Commissariat for Refugees in Zemun Municipality. Free computer courses and ECDL indexes were donated by Microsoft and Union of ICT Societies of Serbia and Montenegro (JISA).
