AWARENESS BUILDING MEETING

Within the scope of the European Perspective programme for "Promotion of Pluralism through Strengthening NGOs and Civil Society in Serbia", co-funded by European Commission and the Department for International Development and Cooperation Hellenic Aid, IAN organised the second Awareness Building Meeting focussed this time on the Promotion of Voluntary Return and Durable Solutions for IDPs from Kosovo in the Human Rights Perspective and the Role of Civil Society.

The meeting was held on 20th March 2003 in Belgrade and it gathered representatives of local and international NGOs, UN agencies, international organisations, competent government bodies, as well as representatives of IDPs and returnees.

The following keynote speakers at the meeting addressed a variety of issues within their competence: Maja Lazic from the UNHCHR, Mathijs le Rutte on behalf of UNHCR, the representative of the Serbian Government Coordination Centre for Kosovo and Metohija Mrs. Ljiljana Belos, UNOCHA representative Alex Todorovic, Assistant to the Serbian Commissioner for Refugees Dejan Keserovic, Elina Multanen from the local NGO "Group 484", Nenad Stojanovic from the local NGO "Protecta" from Nis, Igor Radonjic, representing the American Refugee Committee (ARC), Zarko Redzic from a Kosovo-based local NGO "Survival and Return" operating in Strpce, Kees Wiebering from "Pax Christi" based in Prizren, as well as the representative of the IDP association "Jug" from Kraljevo, Aleksandar Grkovic
