Workshop: Social entrepreneurship and sustainability of telecentres

IAN organized a workshop ?Social entrepreneurship and sustainability of telecentres" in Belgrade between 24 and 26 January 2012. The workshop was organized within the project " Shared Learning and Community Digital Inclusion through telecentre services " support ed by the Fund for an Open Society Serbia .

 

 

The workshop was attended by 25 representatives of telecentres from Romania, Serbia, Latvia and Moldova. The agenda for the workshop was designed to include theoretical lectures, discussions as well as field visits to four social enterprises situated in the wider area of Belgrade: Bizian grupa, Kosmos printing, EkoBaG and Nasa kuca (Our house). The selected social enterprises represent different types of enterprises (cleaning, sewing, printing, day care) helping different marginalized populations: seniors, persons with disabilities, long-term unemployed or youth with mental disabilities.

During the lecture ?Social entrepreneurship: Main concepts? Gordan Velev from the Group 484 and Social Enterprises Network Serbia (SENS) presented a historical background of social entrepreneurship in the world and in Serbia, types of SE (type A and B), cooperatives, experiences from Serbia and other countries and from SENS network, legislative framework and best practices from Serbia .

Miodrag Nedeljkovic, from the social enterprise EkoBaG presented practical experiences in the field of social entrepreneurship from Serbia and Spain. He explained the idea and motives for the establishment of EkoBaG and all obstacles faced during its development as well as the challenges the enterprise encounters today.(Download here presentation)

 

 
 

Miodrag Shrestha presented and explained the position of donors when making a decision about supporting social entrepreneurship. He also pointed out the importance of two dimensions in every social enterprise: Economic and Social. Finally, he presented three stages during the development of social entrepreneurship in a country:

•  Initial (Pioneering) Stage

•  Institutionalizations Stage

•  Differentiation (Developed) Stage

and concluded that Serbia is at this point at the beginning of the second phase.

 

Within the last presentation during the first day Branislav Savic talked about the link between social enterprises and telecentre services and explained how it is possible to transform telecentres into social enterprises and start market generating activities. He listed a waste range of services which telecentres can provide and which can be used to generate income.

 

The third day was devoted to developing a final document related to relevance and sustainability of telecentres. The day started with the presentation of all four countries on the situation in their country. Each country manager presented the level of development of the network, services provided in telecentres, description of users and how they reach sustainability. As a result of the group work and presentations, the final document IMPORTANCE AND RELEVANCE OF TELECENTRES has been written.
