Section for HIV and mental health cooperated with Ministry of Health and Global fund project implementation unit with great success in 2009 and 2010. Cooperation is very intense in the field of the design and delivery of educational programs for diverse group of users. In more then two years a series of training events was carried out for health workers, social workers, people living with HIV, and NGO activists. Educational programs are being designed according to the estimated learning needs of particular population, and relied on most advanced learning principles, high quality curriculum and professional trainers/lecturers. In 2010 the cooperation was widened to the research field and IAN section carried out the research " Perception of knowledge, attitudes and behaviour of health professionals in Serbia related to HIV". This research was for the first time realized by non-governmental organization with Ministry of Health's resources.

IAN cooperates with Global fund Project implementation unit in the field of event organization, publications etc.

People living with HIV and AIDS - PLHIV

Since the very beginning IAN section for HIV and mental health invests in building and upgrading relationship with PLHIV community. IAN supported establishment of certain number of PLHIV associations and supported work of eight associations through various capacity building trainings and technical support. IAN believes that PLHIV inclusion in different activities of prevention, support and HIV treatment, and their empowerment is crucial for efficient response to HIV epidemic. Among others, persons with HIV participate in mixed groups at IAN training events, work as trainers/educators, and participate in research and publication creation. Numerous initiatives for the better quality of life of PLHIV were executed, through different IAN projects and associations themselves which raised their capacities in time to administer sustainable projects. IAN works also in the field of networking between PLHIV associations and professionals employed in social and health care institutions.

IAN section for HIV and mental health has a representative in Union of People living with HIV as one of two non-beneficiaries organization. IAN representative has a supervisory role within the network.

The Youth of Jazas
During 2010 IAN cooperated with non-governmental organization Youth of Jazas on the project "Strengthening the capacities of people living with HIV to organize and conduct self-help groups".

This project aimed at the empowerment of twenty people with HIV (PLHIV association representatives) to be able to organize and manage self-help groups. This goal came out of the belief that people with HIV can best be empowered if they take over the responsibility for themselves and for their HIV positive friends.

Apart from the fact that during two training programs the participants gained basic knowledge and skills in managing self-help groups, they were empowered to organize and conduct such groups. During the project implementation few organizations reported that they formed self-help groups in their associations according to the recommendations acquired at the training: SUNCE, Aid +, ŽENA+ and Q-klub .
